Chris Waddle

In July 1980, Chris Waddle signed for Newcastle United and his career took an up turn after that. He immediately established himself in the Newcastle starting line up after his debut against Shrewsbury Town in October 1980. He was consistent for Newcastle in his five year period at the club between 1980 and 1985 and this in turn earned him international recognition as Bobby Robson picked him for a friendly in 1985. After making 170 appearances for Newcastle, scoring 46 goals, he moved on to play for Spurs. After a five year successful spell at White Hart Lane, he played for French Club Marseille and then later moved back to England to play for Sheffield Wednesday.

John Sheridan

After spending 7 years of his early career with Leeds United, Sheridan switched to Sheffield in 1989, a place in which he became well known as a fine football player. He helped Wednesday to promotion at the end of the 1990-91 season with his dazzling performances on the field. He will be is well known in Sheffield for his famous goal winner during the 1991 league Cup final against Manchester united. To this day the Sheffield Wednesday side of 1991, are the last lower league outfit to win a major trophy in English football. He played for the Republic of Ireland in Euro 88 and Italia 90.

 

Carlton Palmer

Palmer was a well known figure in the game during the 1990’s. He began his career playing for West Brom during the 1984 – 1985 season and went on to earn over 150 appearances for the club before moving on to Sheffield Wednesday in February 1989. His great play with Sheffield Wednesday earned him a call up in to the English national team under Graham Taylor and played a part in their Euro 92 and 1994 world cup qualifying campaign. After playing for Sheffield Wednesday on over 200 occasions, he signed for Leeds United at the start of the 1994 – 1995 season and made an instant impact at the club, becoming a regular fixture in the side during his 3 years there, making over 125 appearances for Leeds. He moved to Southampton at the beginning of the 1997 – 98 season.

Danny Wilson

Wilson was a key member of the Northern Ireland football squad during the late 1980’s and early 1990’s. He scored one goal for Northern Ireland during his time playing for the national squad. He won the league cup with Luton town in the year 1988 and was an FA Cup and league cup runner up with Sheffield Wednesday in 1993. Her alter on embarked on a fine managerial career, helping Barnsley FC to promotion into the premier league during the 1996 – 1997 football season.
